Your Opportunity

We currently have an opening for a contractor Field Safety Consultant in Thompson, MB for a 5 - 6 month term starting in March 2021. The Field Safety Consultant will be assigned to the client's jobsite to integrate Stantec and Client safety policies and procedures which will guide the project. This role will verify that key systems, programs, and processes are developed and effectively implemented/documented for the project as related to health and safety. Will verify an active monitoring process is in place to drive timely completion of key activities for the project and verify deviations or exceptions from expected performance are communicated to the Stantec Project Manager and the client safety team.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Review client guidance documents and site-specific policies/procedures.

  • Ensure activities comply with client site EHS requirements and legislation.

  • Provide EHS support / guidance during planning meetings, step reviews, pre-job meetings, etc.

  • To ensure risks are adequately identified and controlled to the level of safety required by client and site.

  • To ensure client EHS requirements are being complied with in design and execution.

  • Research client requirements and/or safety solutions to project related issues as required.

  • Provide full-time on-site safety supervision of activities, including:

  • Regular inspections of worksite to ensure compliance and risk identification/control.

  • Regular audits of Safe Work Permits and associated documentation to ensure compliance, accuracy, adequate risk identification and control.

  • Sign SWP/other permits as required for high hazard tasks as identified in SWP procedure.

  • Assist with ensuring incident reporting/investigations/corrective actions are completed as required.

  • Monitor conditions that could affect employee or contractor, health, safety, comfort or performance.

  • Verify completion of safety recommendations and requirements on site.

  • Demonstrate understanding of and verifies compliance with safety standards, work practices, work permit requirements, and various safety systems.

  • Assist in safety messaging for toolbox talks.

  • Sign all project related documents requiring EHS signoff/approval.

  • Liaise with Stantec Project Manager and client’s site EHS lead/team to ensure alignment and knowledge transfer, including:

  • Weekly updates.

  • Consult about internal and external required notifications (ie. regulatory, incidents, etc.).

  • Promote a proactive safety culture at all levels of the organization, with heavy focus on employee engagement towards the safety program.

  • Additional Safety related duties as may be assigned

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • NCSO or CRSP

  • Trained to safely access field areas to observe work being performed, including using fall protection PPE as needed.

  • A self-starter, who can engage with internal & external stakeholders.

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiar with Manage of Change (MOC) procedures.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Must have Certificate of Incorporation

  • WCB coverage

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years Health and Safety experience in the industries of Mining, Geotechnical or Heavy Construction.

  • Experience providing site safety supervision.

  • Compliance Audit experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
