Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Environmental Inspector who will work with Stantec’s Environmental group in any one of the following offices, Sudbury, Markham, Stoney Creek, Waterloo or Ottawa. As an Environmental Inspector you will be working near oil and gas pipelines and within compressor station facilities sites throughout Ontario. The successful candidate will provide field and technical support services on a variety of projects relating to water and waste management, and other environmental programs.

  • Please note this opportunity is seasonally based and typically runs from April to December.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and document field data collection activities; assist in the completion of project level work (daily timesheets and work plans, data management, analyze field and technical data, and report preparation) on oil and gas management projects

  • Conduct multi-media sampling (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, waste water, naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) etc.)

  • Provide support with excavation, dewatering, water treatment processes, slurry solidification, soil excavation and segregation projects

  • Completion of fieldwork, including documenting site activities, pipe cut-out sampling, soil and groundwater sampling, soil characterization and vapour screening, installation of sand points and monitoring wells, monitoring water quality and pumping rates, and discharging water to surface

  • Complete water recovery tests, water level measurements, GPS locations, and elevation surveying

  • Prepare appropriate health and safety documents and participate in client health and safety meetings and adhere to Stantec’s and our clients’ safety procedures

  • Prepare daily summary emails and site diagrams

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques

  • Knowledge of field equipment, GIS-related mobile data collection, reporting software is an asset

  • Show initiative in integrating creativity and innovation in all work tasks

  • Problem solving, on the spot decision making, and effective communications skills an asset

  • Experience with Microsoft word and excel

  • Exhibits strong attention to detail

  • Motivated/driven, conscientious, organized, and disciplined

  • Working experience at active construction sites

  • Knowledge of environmental legislations in Ontario, including permit to take water

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required

  • Willing to travel and able to be out-of-town for extended periods of time

  • Weekend work will be required

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field.

Minimum of 7-10 years’ work experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
