Stantec Data Engineer Product Development (ENG) in Netherlands

21307BR

Requisition Number:

21307BR

Description:

At Stantec in the Netherlands, we are working at the intersection of data engineering and environmental management. One of our most important missions is to radically improve the affordability and speed of underground hazard assessments so that everyone can enjoy greater protection, compliance and efficiency when preparing and delivering underground infrastructure projects. All of this is done from a sustainable point of view, to improve the quality of our living environment.

In pursuit of this mission, we have successfully launched several products in recent years. Our information products and support software enable our customers and colleagues to immediately identify the location and impact of potential underground hazards, such as soil contamination, groundwater, unexploded ordnance and tree roots.

As a Data Engineer your focus is designing, developing and maintaining stable and scalable data services. You work directly with and shape our current and future business-critical processes that translate raw and (un)structured spatial data into information for end users. This information is made available to our customers through various channels, such as custom GIS applications and APIs, where you as a developer, together with a team, are given free rein to determine the design for the development issues of that moment. In addition, you actively contribute to decision-making and implementing initiatives aimed at optimizing our architecture, development practices and tech stack. Examples are further experimentation and adoption of containerization technologies, CI/CD pipelines and transferring our data services to the MS Azure cloud platform.

The team you will join combines expertise in the field of (geo-)data engineering, software development and environmental management. We focus solely on developing and delivering long-term solutions that solve problems for an entire industry or market. At the moment, we are primarily focused on continuing the development of our successful range of data-driven solutions for underground hazard assessment as we continue to see significant potential for further growth and meaningful improvements in our product offering. In the coming years, we expect to expand our scope with new data-driven products aimed at providing lasting solutions to challenges in the area of spatial planning and energy transition.

Our way of working is Agile. This is not a goal in itself, but we see it as an excellent way to remind us to keep thinking from a customer perspective, set clear goals and give the development team the freedom to decide how best to achieve our goals.

What are your main responsibilities?

• Design, develop and maintain data services for processing large amounts of raw and (un)structured spatial data via ETL pipelines

• Structuring, upscaling and further automating existing ETL processes.

• Setting up and optimizing ETL processes within our MS Azure cloud platform.

• Carrying out quality checks by means of pair programming / code reviews.

• Contribute to the development of disciplines within all Stantec business lines, e.g. by guiding your colleagues in the team substantively and by clarifying in non-technical terminology the usefulness and necessity of solution directions

This is what you’ll get in return:

Your thoughtful solutions deserve a reward. You’ll find this in the form of good working conditions and a professional environment that is as innovative as your ideas. Your well-being is our priority. This is what you will get from us:

• Freedom to experiment and work with the latest technologies in your field, you do this together with a committed team of 15 development professionals.

• An appropriate salary and good secondary employment conditions, such as an end-of-year bonus, NS Business Card and 28 vacation days.

• A varied job of 32, 36 or 40 hours a week, where you can make a real impact on the living environment.

• A climate neutral working environment where sustainability is paramount. This is reflected in an electric vehicle fleet, vegetarian catering and cool collaborations with charities.

• A diverse team and an inclusive culture. We pursue an active diversity policy to contribute to equal opportunities. Talent and competences are the starting point.

• Plenty of room for your own ideas and initiatives.

• You can work anywhere and at any time to ensure you can get the best out of yourself, one day in a bustling open-plan office where colleagues from all layers of the organization work side by side, and the next day you might work from home and enjoy an afternoon gym session.*

• A working from home arrangement, we will provide a suitable workplace set up at your house and you receive a monthly net internet allowance of € 36.10 per month.

• Infinite joint activities and fun training sessions that make work no longer feel like work.

• We have offices in Arnhem, Delft and Oosterhout (North Brabant).
