Stantec’s Vancouver and Victoria based Sustainability & Building Performance studio is a market leader in integrated sustainability consulting for the built environment. Collaboration, creativity, and innovation define our work to support high quality and high-performance infrastructure and building projects, from the planning phase through design, construction, and operations.
Our multidisciplinary team includes planners, engineers, architects, environmental scientists, and strategic management consultants. Our work includes facilitation and stakeholder engagement, project management, sustainability consulting for infrastructure and buildings (Envision, LEED, Passive House, Net Zero, WELL etc.), sustainability planning, building performance simulation, and performance engineering.
We work with a diverse group of clients in transit and transportation, aviation, ports and marine, local government, health care, education, commercial, and community development sectors. Our work ranges from some of the largest and most complex infrastructure and building projects in BC to bespoke community scale residential and commercial buildings which contribute to defining a neighborhood.
We are seeking a self-motivated professional with specialized and mature expertise in sustainability consulting as it relates to planning design and creative problem solving of infrastructure and building projects with additional familiarity with project management and construction. Experience with the application of rating systems to support sustainable design / development (i.e. Envision, LEED, etc.) is recommended. You will work in an interdisciplinary team environment focusing on Sustainable Building Consulting; primarily providing LEED facilitation for both new and existing facilities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing sustainability and business management expertise and technical support and/or leadership to a wide range of design projects. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to champion the strategic planning and sustainable design for projects, seeking to develop specific innovative solutions to client challenges while advocating for and advancing the state of the art of sustainability generally.
Your Key Responsibilities
Work with clients and project teams to develop sustainability objectives, metrics, and frameworks appropriate to the project.
Work with clients and project teams to identify design strategies aimed at improving triple-bottom line performance.
Facilitate the certification process for internal and external design teams, from schematic design through to occupancy/operation.
Organize and facilitate meetings and consultation events with clients, technical experts, and additional project stakeholders.
Research and prepare business case, feasibility reports, project execution plans, and stakeholder engagement plans for client projects and programs.
Provide building engineering guidance and recommendations to all team members.
Prepare and reviews reports.
Coordinate in-house activities.
Conduct presentations to Architects and other Consultants.
Prepare Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) documentation.
Develop new educational and analytical tools.
Organize in-house research to connect with grant-supported public policy & government organizations.
Evaluate market potential and applications for new energy efficiency technologies, and coordinates input from various stakeholders/vendor’s etc.
Collaborate with sustainability-focused professionals across the organization to continuously advance, advocate for, and integrate suitability best practice.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Deep understanding of sustainability concepts, their theoretical basis, their evolution, and their current practical applications.
Experienced knowledge of and experience with sustainability rating and certification systems, processes, and document submission.
An understanding of the LEED® program and associated rating systems under both the Canada and US Green Building Councils.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a strong attention to detail are essential.
Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office programs.
Experience in building energy efficiency.
Project Management experience.
WELL Building accreditation or a commitment to obtaining it.
Experience leading and managing teams of people
Experience in team and stakeholder facilitation.
Speaking, publishing, teaching and research experience and aspirations.
Demonstrated experience contributing to programs, plans and strategies for project teams seeking to meet high performance objectives.
Experience in the preparation and execution of business cases, including market/environment analyses, scheduling, financial analysis, and stakeholder management.
Excellent communication and facilitation skills (verbal and written).
Excellent personal organization and time management skills.
Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) accreditation is an asset.
Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud products (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) is an asset.
Excel/VBA capability is an asset.
Graduate level degree in business, management, or environmental studies is an asset.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in undergraduate degree in environmental science, business administration/management, and/or sustainability. Minimum of 10 years of experience. LEED accreditation is necessary. Eligibility for registration with EGBC or a Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or AIBC, or Architectural Technology with eligibility for registration with ASET is preferred.

The standard work space is a typical office working with computers in a sit/stand environment while generally remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
