Stantec Construction Operator - Excavator in Sherman, Texas
MWH Constructors, now part of the Stantec Construction Group, is a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Excavator.
Excavator operators drive heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom, dipper, bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the “house”. The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Excavator operators must be responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. The operator will use the excavator to load earth debris and other rubble onto trucks or conveyors to remove them from a construction site.
Handling and/or moving material. Knowledge of the excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks. Perform tasks maintaining all health, safety and environmental rules and ensure all work is done in a manner which enhances the safety of the work environment. Identify, report and correct hazards. Clean equipment as scheduled and/or required. Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored. Practice workplace safety to ensure the safety of fellow employees. Experience with water and sewer installations.
Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures, near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and to vibration and loud noise. Work may be hazardous.
Construction Operator - Excavator

5-10 years experience
Workers should be able to: Read locate sheets and possible underground and/or overhead utilities. Workplace safety requirements and procedures including but not limited to backing up procedures, use of flagmen and spotters, signage, incident reporting, knowledge of personal safety equipment and lifting of heavy loads. Mechanical aptitude, analytical and problem solving skills. Effective communication skills (both listening and verbal) to all site personnel. Physically, workers must be able to: See well (either naturally or with correction); Coordinate the movements of eyes, hands and fingers; Use hands, arms, and fingers fully; Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at heights as required.
