Your Opportunity

Our Mining team has a need for Instrumentation Designer / Technologists based out of our North Bay, ON, Sudbury, ON and Saskatoon, SK offices. The successful candidates will work with various clients in completing feasibility studies, detailed engineering projects and site technical support for underground and surface mining operations. This person will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in Ontario and Saskatchewan, as well as across Canada and abroad.

Your Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its clients.

  • Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design, site related work and use of technology.

  • Review and analyze project deliverables for possible safety and constructability risks and solutions.

Instrumentation Design and Site Technical Support

  • Preparation of calculations and quality drawings to Stantec Mining standards.

  • Design and detailing of electrical systems with little or no supervision.

  • Preparation of Material Take-Offs and other similar tasks.

  • Working with a multi-discipline engineering and design team on a day-to-day basis.

  • Leading and coordinating the preparation of project designs and details. Participation in project meetings.

  • Perform various office tasks as required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ensure to interpret and suitably use ISA and CSA codes along with API installation practices and standards.

  • Thorough understanding of Instrumentation and Automation design standards; this includes familiarity with control systems (DCS and PLC based architectures), and programming.

  • Design fire alarm, communications and security systems for mining facilities.

  • Develop P&IDs, loop diagrams, network diagrams.

  • Conduct instrumentation evaluation and troubleshooting for electrical, pneumatic, electronic as well as programmable logic control (PLC) systems.

  • Conduct test related to functional performance on instrumentation as needed by facility changes.

  • Comply with classification and prioritization system for completion of work order.

  • Maintain and update awareness of modifications to regulatory needs related to conduct of maintenance and construction of instrument systems.

  • Ensure conformance with environmental and safety requirements commensurate with executing required instrument maintenance or replacement activities.

  • Comply with all instructions for job tasks completion.

  • Proficiency with MicroStation is an asset.

  • Knowledge of 3D software such as Revit, SmartPlant, SolidWorks, or similar, is required along with the use of 2D software to produce project drawings.

  • You must be a self-starter and be able to work in a team setting.

Education and Experience

Graduate of Technical or College Course in Instrumentation, or the ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge received from previous experience in a similar position.

2 - 10 years of heavy industrial and/or mining specific experience in Instrumentation design and site technical support.
