Your Duties

Our Global Mining team has a need for an Intermediate Electrical Engineer or Engineer-in-Training for the electrical, instrumentation, and automation discipline, based out of our office in Saskatoon, SK . You would work with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations.

  • Working in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its Clients.

  • Ensuring all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.

  • Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients;


  • Power, automation, and/or communications system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations, under the supervision of a lead engineer.

  • Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client’s needs and requests.

  • Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.

  • Work with supervising engineers and designers on various projects collaboratively to complete design drawings with appropriate level of detail.

  • Interfacing with other disciplines and project management to execute the project as per plan.

  • Technical experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset:

  • Electrical infrastructure and power distribution (up to 25kV systems).

  • System engineering (process control and instrumentation design).

  • Lighting design and modelling.

  • Communication system engineering (Fibre optic, Ethernet, Radio, etc.).

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Eligible for a Professional Engineering license in SK. For EIT; Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

  • 1-5+ years of heavy industrial and/or mining specific experience in electrical engineering and design.

  • Excellent knowledge of applicable codes, health and safety regulations. Knowledge of Mining regulations would be considered an asset.

  • Proficiency with/exposure to;

  • Power modeling software (ETAP, EasyPower, and/or SKM).

  • Design/drafting capability would be considered an asset (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit).

  • Lighting system software utilization.

  • You must be a self-starter with excellent communication skills and be able to work in a fast paced, team setting.

  • Interest in acquiring experience completing equipment inspections on-site (client, vendor, etc.) and to assess electrical and communication infrastructure.

  • Willing to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices.
