Your Opportunity

We are looking for a staff environmental scientist to conduct field work primarily in the California Central Coast and nearby areas, as well as office based professional work. This position works as part of a larger environmental services team and may provide support to multiple Stantec offices. Candidates may also be requested to support other service areas related to environmental investigation and cleanup projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of field data collection activities

  • Collect soil and groundwater samples

  • Data entry and analysis

  • Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in reports

  • Implement environmental investigation and monitoring plans.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Knowledge of field methods for environmental data collection and soil and groundwater sampling experience preferred.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting, with close attention to detail and ability to carry out technical plans and instructions.

  • A willingness to travel within California is preferred.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training certificate preferred or ability to obtain prior to employment.

  • Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.

  • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, preferably a BS in earth sciences, physical sciences, or biological science.

1-3 years’ experience in environmental science or similar, with both field and office experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 40 lbs.
