MWH Constructors (MWHC) is a global leader in heavy civil construction of water and wastewater facilities. We are currently seeking an Area Project Manager to manage a demo subcontract package for a wastewater treatment plant infrastructure project in San Francisco, CA.

This project is very unique in that it involves a new, cutting edge technology in the US wastewater market called Thermal Hydrolysis. This highly sophisticated technology essentially converts the biosolids from the treatment process into renewable energy. When completed, this will be one of only three Thermal Hydrolysis wastewater treatment plants in operation in the entire U.S.

The Area PM is accountable for providing direction and leadership associated with demolition related subcontractor activities. The PM must ensure work is performed on budget, on schedule, in accordance with MWHC policy and standards.


  1. Plan, organize and staff key field positions.

  2. Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy.

  3. Ensure work is performed on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.

  4. Represent Company in project meetings, assist in labor negotiations/strategy meetings, etc as required.

  5. Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company's interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with Client.

  6. Work jointly with other members of the project team to complete the MWHC Management Administration Plan prior to initiating any fieldwork. Use the planning guidelines and tools provided throughout the project.

  7. Assure that direct reporting employees follow safe work practices and use company guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

  8. Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.

  9. Provide leadership and technical support to project engineers, field engineers and superintendents.

  10. Assume additional responsibilities as directed by Senior PM.

Area Project Manager - San Francisco



Management responsibility generally limited to one large or several medium sized projects.

Educational Requirements:

4-year engineering/construction management degree or equivalent experience and training/education.

Experience Requirements:

8+ years of construction and management experience/knowledge required on industrial projects, preferably water and wastewater plants.

Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.

Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities vital.

Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills essential.
