Your Opportunity

Take the first step towards designing your career with Stantec. We have an exciting role and challenging opportunity for a Senior Compensation professional to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Compensation, the primary responsibilities will be to provide both strategic and tactical compensation consultation for assigned business operating unit(s), write and approve job descriptions to further populate our global job description tool and lead or participate in a wide variety of compensation-related project work. This position is geared towards a client focused professional with demonstrated consulting capabilities and experience with compensation data modeling and interpretation to tell the story to educate and inform pay decisions. Join our collaborative compensation team and play an integral role delivering compensation consulting services.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with HR business partners and business leaders to diagnose compensation issues and guide business leaders and managers on the application of our compensation guidelines, policies and practices to optimize compensation programs and tools in support of organization goals.

  • Advise HR and leaders on pay management strategies and decisions, through development and presentation of competitive assessments and salary analysis.

  • Create, validate and approve job descriptions in a highly diverse business environment with over 2400 roles, related to our multiple lines of business such as Buildings, Community Development, Transportation, Oil & Gas, Mining, Power & Dams, Environmental Services, and Water.

  • Research and work collaboratively with HR and internal subject matter experts in the business to ensure accuracy of technical content of job descriptions at both a corporate and business line level.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of compensation training for HR and the business as required.

  • Provide support for Mergers & Acquisitions in assigned business operating unit (s) or region(s) globally by partnering with the business and HR to educate and advise on the accurate application of our global career framework job structure.

  • Develop and/or maintain a variety of excel based tools and data models to support team and client-based projects and processes.

  • Conduct and interpret data analytics to deliver actionable and relevant insights in support of informed compensation planning.

  • Collaborate on compensation-wide projects and provide business operating unit and professional perspective to new programs, policies, practices and design solutions as assigned.

  • Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience consulting on compensation programs, policies and practices that support informed decision making

  • Comprehensive understanding of compensation best practices and principles

  • Ability to compile, analyze and interpret large amounts of information/data from multiple sources required

  • Experience developing and running data models; effectively leveraging data to tell the story in support of informed decision making

  • Understanding and application of project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle

  • Apply effective oral/written communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking

  • Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment in performance of duties

  • Proficient MS Office Suite skills required; advanced Excel skills required

  • Experience with HRIS Systems (preferably Oracle)

  • Understand and apply compensation related legislation, rules, and regulations for North America required; multi-national knowledge preferred

  • CCP preferred or in progress

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business or related field; Minimum of 7 years of related experience, at least 5 years in compensation.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Travel may be required throughout North America.
