Your Opportunity

Under the direction of the Senior Right of Way Agent, you will possess a good working knowledge of all right of way disciplines; title, permitting, acquisition and documentation.

Full time, long term Right of Way Agent available in both Richmond,VA and Roanoke, VA locations. Stantec is considering all experience levels.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Performs, leads and supervises right of way activities

  • Appraises properties for acquisition, researches records and prepares reporting documents

  • Negotiates acquisitions and relocates property owners

  • Conducts building inspections, tax assessments and cost estimates

  • Participates in property evaluations and right of way activities

  • Acts as an internal point person for the group to coordinate technical support

  • Performs thorough quality control (QA/QC) of own work and that of others

  • Trains and/or mentors less experienced staff in developing technical skills

  • Attends meetings to explain projects with clients, attorneys, engineers, representatives and affected parties

  • Prepares reports for weekly construction project status meetings and reports on the status of right of way acquisition

  • Performs other right of way duties of a similar nature and level as assigned

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Thorough understanding of right of way laws

  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, maps and right of way plans

  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation's requirements in relevant jurisdictions

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgement, creativity and innovation

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, engage in creative and critical thought and effectively communicate concepts and ideas to others

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings

  • Ability to read and interpret land survey documents and right of way maps

  • Familiarity with the provisions of the Federal Uniform Act as it applies to the acquisition of property

  • Familiarity with project management cycle

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

  • Real estate license or right of way certification preferred

Education and Experience

Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 1 year of experience within ROW

Multiple openings considering 5 years of ROW experience

Position will primarily work in an office setting; may require some field work. Employee may drive on company business to deliver plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. Occasionally visits construction sites or works in outside weather conditions.
