The primary role of the Interior Designer is to interpret and translate the needs and desires of a client as well as any architectural direction set forth into cohesive interior design solution. This process may involve production of drawings (2D/3D), and written material to support the conceptual direction of interior design and FFE. This individual will often be required to present their ideas in formal and informal settings with a willingness and desire to hear and respond to constructive feedback. An individual at this level in their career is expected to perform their role within the standard of care acceptable to their peers in the industry. An Interior Designer is expected to work collaboratively with the architectural team, conceptualizing, developing and documenting varying aspects of interior design of a project, including but not limited to space planning, interior architecture, interior materials and palette, specifications and FFE.
Your Key Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with other Interior Designers and other members of our integrated Buildings Team.
Supports the design team in development of material for presentations.
Assists in the development of a design through design charettes, hand sketches and/or computer-generated imagery.
Understands or is interested in learning and utilizing Revit in the development of three dimensional models of buildings and their components.
Engages in design critiques and can give and receive constructive feedback.
Interprets and applies building codes and requirements of other regulatory agencies.
Participates in programming sessions and interprets client requirements into area requirements, blocking diagrams and space planning.
Prepares and revises drawings and documentation in various project phases to support interior design intent.
Assists in the evaluation and selection of interior systems and materials and coordinates with the project team.
Attends project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
Manages the sample library and meets with product representatives to maintain current samples.
Participates and/or leads client meetings.
Implements sustainable design principles into project interiors.
Participates in business development activities and interviews.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to communicate your career interests and design aspirations.
Approaches design in a thoughtful and creative manner. Basic knowledge of interior building systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards.
Interest and ability to design within various sectors such as education, commercial and workplace, healthcare, industrial and hospitality.
Basic understanding of all phases of Interior Design document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Takes initiative to check own work for accuracy and completeness. Manages time and incorporates feedback to meet project budget and schedule outlined by Project Manager.
Interest and ability to engage in creative and critical thought.
Ability to interpret construction detailing.
Desire to collaborate with other interior designers within the Stantec design network.
Requires basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; prefer experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SketchUp, Newforma and/or other modeling software.
Education and Experience
Have achieved a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Interior Design or related field. Have achieved or are working towards professional registration with IDAS. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience is preferred.
