Your Opportunity

With experienced and talented staff, Stantec’s North Carolina offices are experiencing rapid growth. We are looking for a mid-level Environmental Scientist to join our Raleigh, NC office to help fuel that growth by providing environmental support for clients in the transportation, electric transmission, and other business sectors for projects in the Southeastern United States. Clients include the North Carolina Department of Transportation, local governments, military bases, renewable energy firms, and Federal and State partners.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with technical studies and ecological resource assessments such as wetland delineations, habitat assessments, rare species and wildlife investigations, and other natural resource surveys.

  • Prepare state and federal wetland permit applications.

  • Assist in the preparation of NEPA documentation including environmental impact statements (EISs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), Categorical Exclusions (CEs)

  • Perform research, conduct environmental analyses (field and desktop), develop recommendations, and assist in the preparation of technical reports under NEPA.

  • Provide quality assurance and quality control for all final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance.

  • Create graphics and maps for field investigations and reports

  • Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required), and demonstrates use and understanding of these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.

  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team, Business Center, and region.

  • Demonstrates ability to build relationships with key clients with respect to their technical area and the broader business objectives of the business center.

  • The successful candidate will have a diverse skill set in multiple environmental disciplines and a passion for lifelong learning.

  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

  • Experienced in MS Office applications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental discipline.

  • Must have a professional and academic background in ecology, environmental science, wetlands, botany, or soil science. Minimum of 2-3 years of professional consulting experience demonstrating progressive responsibility.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience delineating wetlands in NC and/or elsewhere in the Southeast.

  • Willingness to travel, and the ability to work in the field for long hours in all weather conditions with a focus on safety.

  • Experience with NC permitting, NEPA document preparation, and State/Federal/Local permitting.

  • Experience with ArcGIS and drafting software (e.g. AutoCAD or Microstation) preferred.

  • Strong technical writing and speaking skills.

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and desire for team success.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
