Stantec Senior Hydrogeologist in Pune, India

Primary Purpose of Job:

Contribute to the ongoing growth of STANTEC ResourceNet India Private Ltd. by providing technical expertise in the Environmental Services sector. As a Senior Hydrogeologist, you will play a key role in a wide variety of physical and chemical hydrogeology projects. This position is anticipated to consist of water supply studies, hydrologic and hydrogeologic assessments, dewatering studies, support for mining projects and permitting.

Support project managers/team leader by providing technical support to ensure that project outcomes in terms of budget, schedule, technical and quality standards, meet both the client and STANTEC expectations.

Key Accountabilities:

Primary responsibilities will be related to performing key tasks to support physical and chemical hydrogeology components of projects. Responsibilities are anticipated to include but are not limited to the following:

• Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.

• Preparing proposals, developing work plans and budgets and management of projects/tasks.

• Developing conceptual and analytical hydrogeologic models.

• Review field information from investigations; preparation of reports including the interpretation of geological/hydrogeological conditions.

• Interpret aquifer tests, characterize aquifers based on maps and other spatial data.

• Work with multi-disciplinary teams on baseline and impact assessment projects, feasibility studies, hydrogeologic assessments and contaminant investigations, and rehabilitation projects.

• Prepare technical reports and client presentations summarizing project work, findings and recommendations

• Demonstrate sound application of established practices, standards, and guidelines

• Review the input received from client and understand the scope of work and then plan work accordingly without changing design intent.

• Liaise closely with regional stakeholders (regional project leadership), and in some instances external clients; and local RNet (Pune) team members.

• Ensure quality and schedule for own work.

• Coordination with other Disciplines Designers and Engineers as applicable.

• Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns to Discipline Lead/Project Manager/Project Lead.

• Stay updated with relevant technical developments within the discipline.

• Attend project meetings and calls as required.

• May also be required to train new team members

• Undertake other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time by management.

• Need to work off-hours for client co-ordination: Occasionally

• Travelling offshore (secondments) to other Stantec global offices: for durations ranging from 3 to 6 months or as required.


Senior Hydrogeologist


• Minimum of a Master’s degree specializing in groundwater from a Hydrogeology, Geoscience, or Engineering program

• 5 to 10 years of relevant working experience in consulting or regulatory environment, regularly using and analyzing hydrogeologic data.

• Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration in Canada (P.Geo. or P.Eng.)

• Good organizational skills with ability to independently manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus and attention to detail

• Ability to meet a strong demand for high-quality, organized and consistent results.

• Confident individual who demonstrates strong initiative and is capable of independent action with the ability to make informed decisions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced technical report writing skills.

• Time management – balancing immediate and long-term work with varying priorities and deadlines.

• Experience with hydrogeological characterization work including aquifer test design and analysis and technical report writing.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

• Possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.

• Experience with numerical groundwater flow and transport modeling is considered an asset.

• Knowledge of mine and environment regulations and policies are considered an asset.

• General knowledge in hydro-geochemistry related to evaluating metal leaching potential and acid rock drainage (ML/ARD), estimating the quality of mine-water discharge for open pit/underground mine operations, pit lake chemistry, and groundwater chemistry for mine contamination projects an asset.

• Knowledge of/familiarity in use of groundwater modeling software like Modflow/Feflow would be preferred

• Candidates with GIS (Geographical Information System) would be an added advantage.
