Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Design Manager for the Willamette Water Supply Program (WWSP) in Beaverton, OR.

As a Design Manager, you will oversee design projects and activities, including design of the raw water facilities, water treatment plant, conveyance facilities (pipelines), reservoirs, and associated interim operations, commissioning, and startup. Work environment is fast paced and dynamic. Position will be located is at the Willamette Water Supply Program (WWSP) office located in Beaverton, Oregon. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and refining design-related portions of the Program Management Plan, including the Design Management Plan

  • Coordinating with individual project managers on a day-to-day basis, assisting them with completing project-specific design management activities, and verifying that their quality management tasks are scheduled, having the correct quality reviewers/technical experts, and completed

  • Leading weekly Design Team meetings to coordinate tasks between projects and WWSP staff

  • Overseeing and coordinating design project management practices across WWSP design packages

  • Tracking, analyzing, and regularly reporting design status to the Engineering and Construction Manager, the Program Construction Manager, the Program Manager, and the Program Director

  • Coordinating design schedule and budget management with the Controls Manager

  • Assisting the Controls Manager with setup, monitoring, and maintenance of the design-document portions of the Project Management Information System

  • Assisting the project managers and Procurement and Contracts Administrator with design consultant statement of work preparation and review/negotiation of professional procurement documents

  • Reviewing design consultant agreements and task orders, recommending execution, and coordinating issue resolution during contracts administration

  • Overseeing and participating in design consultant project deliverables review

  • Confirming WWSP design standards are being implemented across the various work packages

  • Guiding project managers through the WWSP change management (including supporting baseline change updates) and risk and value management activities

  • Coordinating project manager, construction management staff, and design consultant involvement in engineering services during construction, including expediting resolution of design issues during construction

  • Leading evaluations of opportunities to partner with other organizations to jointly deliver projects and other program-level engineering support tasks

  • Collaborating and supporting other WWSP tasks, including construction management, permitting, real estate, public outreach, and stakeholder engagement

  • Preparing for and participating in WWSP management, executive, and governing body meetings as needed

  • Supporting WWSP commissioning and start-up planning

  • Leading WWSP operational planning

  • Facilitating constructability reviews for design deliverables

  • Assisting in the development, review, and implementation of intergovernmental agreements and memoranda of understanding

  • Mentoring staff to facilitate their continued professional development

  • Coordinating with agency staff to incorporate appropriate operational and safety elements into the various design and construction packages

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Licensed professional engineer in the State of Oregon or ability to acquire in 6 months

  • Experience with major water infrastructure projects, including large-diameter pipelines

  • Ability to effectively operate with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholder groups

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Possess strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Must be a committed and experienced team player

Education and Experience

BS or BS/MS in civil or environmental engineering.

Minimum 15 years of project management experience in pipelines, reservoirs, water, wastewater, or water resources.
