Your Opportunity:

We are actively looking for a Functional Analyst. Using a combination of business domain and functional system knowledge rooted in a disciplined approach, the Functional Analyst creates system solutions to for improvements for the business and/or to implement development initiatives and resolves Tier 2 incidents/problems as required. To accomplish this, the Functional Analyst maintains an in-depth understanding of the functional configuration and system flows; and works collaboratively with Service Delivery Analysts, Technical Analysts, and Business Analysts to develop functional solutions.

Your Duties:

  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of the functional configuration and system flows that underpin an application to deliver functionality to the business.

  • Keep abreast of configuration options and best practices with out-of-the-box functionality.

  • Resolve functional problems effectively and efficiently working with internal technical teams, and external vendors to identify work around, root cause and fix.

  • Log SRs with vendors and coordinate diagnostics, requested actions and testing with technical teams.

  • Execute SQL database queries to assist in data analysis.

  • Proactively identify and consult on functional capabilities to improve service delivery processes.

  • Analyze requirements documents and participate in requirements discussions with business stakeholder to develop and recommend functional designs.

  • Research and develop proof-of-concepts to determine optimal functional designs.

  • Document functional designs & configurations using Microsoft Office tools such as:

  • Visio

  • Word

  • Excel

  • PowerPoint

  • Collaborate with end users and/or Business analysts to flesh out requirements and plan/design solutions.

  • Assess impacts of functional changes to the system, including upstream and downstream system flows; and develop appropriate unit test plans to mitigate risk of changes negatively impacting the business.

  • Execute formal testing by participating in testing activities such as test case creation, execution and issue resolution.

  • Work collaboratively with technical analysts to design and develop solutions requiring technical configurations and extensions.

  • Adhere to Stantec’s Solution Delivery Framework, Incident Management, and Change Management procedures.

  • Lead or assist with day-to-day service delivery issues and processes as required.


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional demeanor.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, problem solving, and analytical skills.

  • Strong understanding of data model and system flows for one or more application domains.

  • Strong system troubleshooting skills.

  • Formal training and/or accreditation in accounting/financial management, human resources or other relevant discipline.

  • Good presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with the following:

  • Microsoft Office tools such as Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Understanding internal system flows for a particular application domain

  • QA testing tools such as HP Quality Center

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Completion of a post-secondary Business, Finance, or Information Technology related program or comparable education.

  • Experience with system development and testing methodologies and tools.

  • Project management and/or project lead experience.

  • Experience with ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library).

  • Hands on experience with Oracle E-Business Suite in one or more of the following modules:

  • Projects

  • Financials

  • HRMS
