An opportunity exists in Stantec's Ottawa, ON office for a highly motivated Junior Structural Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on municipal, federal, industrial, healthcare, commercial and educational projects. The successful candidate will also be assist in developing and maintaining new and existing clients, and satisfying customer requirements.
Your Key Responsibilities
Work under the supervision of a structural engineer to prepare engineering designs from conceptual design, through tender to construction.
Under the supervision of a structural engineer, prepare design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering drawings for concrete, steel, masonry and wood building structures.
Work with team members in determining viable solutions for design issues.
Work to and meet project time lines and budgets.
Coordinate design work with other disciplines, other offices, and other project team members.
Support Construction Administration tasks including field reviews and co-ordination, review and issuance of change orders, clarifications and RFI responses as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Proficient in Microsoft Office products and experience with structural finite element engineering design software such as ETABS, SAP, and STAAD.
Ability to work independently, and as part of a multidiscipline group.
Strong time management and communication skills are required.
Working knowledge of Project Management fundamentals would be considered an asset.
Ability to communicate in English and French is considered an asset.
Education and Experience
Minimum 2 years of post-graduation experience in structural design environment and possess a thorough understanding of the design of various building structures.
Eligible for registration as an EIT within the Province of Ontario.
Experience in earthquake engineering design and rehabilitation of historical buildings structures will be considered an asset.
