Stantec is seeking a qualified Vegetation Management Crew Lead to fill full-time, permanent opening in our Naperville, IL office. We are looking for energetic and organized individuals to assist with growing our vegetation management practice in order to meet demands from our growing client base and geographic reach.

Your Duties

Assist project managers with planning, coordination and completion of vegetation management throughout northern Illinois. Supervise tasks and project-specific crews related to vegetation management. Specific job tasks and qualifications may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise crew members to successfully complete quality projects.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively apply management techniques, tools, and timing for effective control of incompatible vegetation on utility right-of-ways in the upper Midwest.

  • Core job daily job duties will consist of applying various herbicides from backpack, ATV / UTV, and tractor-mounted sprayers. Additional duties may consist of mowing, installation of native seeds and plants, prescribed burning, brush/tree removal, and erosion control. Equipment operations may include chainsaws, backpack herbicide sprayers, ATV / UTV, skidsteer and tractor with various attachments.

  • Trailering and towing equipment such as ATVs, skidsteers and tractors.

  • Assist with coordination of a wide variety of tasks including equipment operation and maintenance, safety planning and auditing, and quality control.

  • Communication with project managers and client.

  • Assist project managers with development of site-appropriate management approaches, work plans, and cost estimating.

  • Documentation of work completed, including appropriate/necessary reporting for activities such as herbicide record-keeping and safety documentation. Daily data entry and transfer into a project-specific computer program may be required.

  • Must have the ability to work in the field for long hours in all weather conditions.

  • Occasional in-state travel.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Preferred Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Two or more years of small equipment operation and maintenance.

  • One or more years of pesticide application experience.

  • Basic familiarity with Midwestern flora and plant communities, with emphasis on common woody and invasive plant species, or desire to learn.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.

  • Demonstrated good communication and problem solving skills.

  • Strong ethics, leadership, and interest to uphold Stantec’s values.

  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Prioritize safety above all, commit to a high standard safety culture and safe work environment, abide by all safety procedures, trainings and protocols; identify hazards prior to working and recognize new hazards when they arise, take necessary steps to eliminate or reduce risks.

  • Ability to complete NWCG S-130 / S-190 fire training within 6 months of hire.

Required

  • Valid state driver's license (preferred w/ Valid Class A Commercial driver's license);

  • Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day in rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs;

  • Active Pesticide Operators license (or ability to obtain within 30 days);

  • Willingness to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for multiple days; and

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
