Your Duties

This is a full time ecological Restoration Specialist position working with our Ecosystem Restoration group out of Stantec’s Naperville, Illinois office.

Responsibilities for this position include:

Carrying out tasks related to prairie, wetland, and other natural community restoration and management. Primary duties include controlling invasive plant species and installation of native plant species. Specific job tasks include application of various herbicides, mowing, installation of native seeds and plants, prescribed burning, and brush/tree removal. Equipment operations may include chainsaws, backpack herbicide sprayers, ATV, tractor and/or skidsteer with various attachments. Assist project managers, staff scientists and senior scientists with the collection of field and written/tabular data for various types of tasks.

Your Capabilities and Credentials


  • Basic familiarity with Midwestern flora and plant communities

  • Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day in rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs

  • Valid IL Pesticide Operators license, or ability to obtain within one month

  • S130 & S190 NWCG fire behavior training, or ability to obtain within three months

  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license, or ability to obtain within six months


  • Undergraduate Degree in an environmental discipline

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen will be required.
