As a Water Resources Engineer your role is to work with general supervision and direction on average sized projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer/designer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineering principles to select the best plan involving the collaboration with multiple stakeholders and expertise within the company. You will assist in verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.
Your Key Responsibilities
Perform Hydrologic, Hydraulic and Hydrodynamic analyses using various modelling tools.
Perform floodplain evaluations, watershed assessments, including modeling, reporting and permit support.
Field support for water quality studies, hydrology monitoring, stream restoration and fluvial geomorphological assessments, and other projects.
Assist in developing technical proposals.
Plan and manage tasks.
Provide expertise to internal and external clients to resolve complex problems and issues.
Monitor water supply and usage.
Contribute to the planning of water resource development by forecasting and monitoring water usage and precipitation levels.
Analyze the effects of environmental and land-use changes on water flow.
Respond to water flow situations, for example droughts and floods, and evaluate different methods to address issues.
Measure water levels and collect ground and surface water samples.
Ensure water quality is monitored and concerns are being met.
Conduct climate impact studies with respect to various hydrological applications.
Prepare technical reports and studies.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Proficient in policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training, leads by example, and applies these policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.
Solid skills in technical writing.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Developed skills in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public.
Able to build strong relationships with key clients with respect to their technical area and the broader business objectives in their regions.
Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
Applies technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address current and potential project issues.
Conduct assignments/projects with a high degree of initiative and independence.
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science or Engineering in Civil, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering or other closely related degree required.
3-7 years of experience in hydrogeology
P. Eng. or eligible to obtain a P.Eng.
Proficient with various hydrologic, hydraulic and water quality models (e.g. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, VO2, HSPF etc.).
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
