With a long history and proven experience in all types of ecosystem restoration, Stantec is committed to moving our ecosystem restoration initiative forward. We are actively seeking an Civil, Environmental or Coastal Engineer with demonstrated Project Management experience to join our established ecosystem restoration team in Mobile, Alabama. As a senior practitioner, you will be an integral part of our established and talented team, leading design efforts of stream restoration work, mentoring staff while working collaboratively to deliver what our clients need.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead large restoration projects of high complexity, through all phases of a project lifecycle.
Serve as technical lead, interface with clients, engage local and remote staff, and interact with permitting agencies and partnering consulting firms in the execution of engineering projects.
Schedule, coordinate, and monitor field logistics for large restoration projects in both an urban and rural setting.
Manage multiple projects/task orders simultaneously.
Establish project/task order objectives, procedures, and performance standards.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams on the preparation of technical drawings and reports.
Identify appropriate resources and skill sets to achieve project/task order objectives.
Track and manage costs and schedule and implement measures necessary to stay on schedule and within budget.
Lead by example with active support of internal policies and practices, including risk management, project management, and quality management.
Provide mentoring and training of junior staff.
Ensure compliance with project plan and procedures.
Develop and maintain positive client relationships, including seeking opportunities for new business.
Assist and/or lead the development of proposals and contract negotiation.
Develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for projects, and support marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Experience with designing stream restoration projects using Natural Channel Design techniques.
Experience in FEMA Risk Map and/or floodplain/watershed studies is a plus.
Working knowledge of hydrology, stormwater management, water quality issues, and ecology, as well as experience in wetland delineation/mitigation design.
Working knowledge of coastal systems, management, enhancement and restoration, with an emphasis on living shorelines and salt marsh restoration.
Expertise in all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
Strong presentation and interview skills.
Preparation of proposals and marketing efforts.
Client management and development.
Experience mentoring staff on engineering design, calculations, and development of technical specifications.
Familiarity with CADD.
Prepare plans, schedules for detailed phases of engineering work for civil, environmental and coastal projects.
Prepares cost and project estimates, job budgets and schedules.
Perform engineering, design and modelling and/or reviews the design and drafting work.
Familiarity with the permitting process and environmental regulations.
Rosgen training and familiarity with the RIVERMorph software is a major plus.
Working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Coastal, Civil or Environmental Engineering.
Licensed Professional Engineer.
Minimum of 10 years of experience which must include relevant consulting experience and experience in a lead engineering role in projects with significant capital budgets.
