Stantec is looking for an Intermediate to Senior level Cultural Heritage Specialist to join our growing team in Ontario. Working alongside a team of heritage professionals, the position offers opportunities to work on a wide range of heritage projects ranging from municipal heritage planning and conservation to federal environmental assessments and complex infrastructure development. The Cultural Heritage team at Stantec works across disciplines leveraging the diverse skillset of a wide range of professionals including Landscape Architects, Planners, Engineers, and a wide range of specialists.
Your Key Responsibilities
Leading heritage pursuits and project delivery;
Managing heritage projects of various types, sizes and complexities;
Providing advice and guidance for heritage related matters for a variety of stakeholders, internal and external including municipal, provincial, and federal;
Managing compliance with relevant industry or sector requirements;
Conducting site visits to determine the presence of potential heritage resources;
Analyzing and reporting on research findings on a broad range of historical research topics throughout Ontario;
Conducting primary and secondary research through online resources and in-person data gathering at libraries, archives, and museums;
Identifying and coordinating other technical areas required to deliver projects, as needed;
Identifying business development opportunities; meeting with existing and prospective clients; and participating in multi-disciplinary proposals;
Assisting with marketing of technical expertise, as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential;
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team;
Excellent research and organizational skills, including experience with archival, primary, and secondary source research;
Knowledge of relevant policies and legislation related to heritage practices and environmental assessment in Ontario;
Familiarity in land use planning, including policy review;
Proven writing skills and authorship of heritage reports ( writing samples may be requested prior to interview);
Recognized as a specialist within Ontario in the Heritage Resources area;
Applicants must be willing to travel within Ontario, have flexible availability, and have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
Education and Experience
Experience at conducting cultural heritage resource studies for a variety of development sectors;
Master’s degree in public history, urban planning, heritage conservation, architecture, or in a related discipline with 5 – 10 years of relevant experience (working in the heritage profession or related field) or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education;
Member of CAHP is preferred;
