Your Opportunity

Join a growing Healthcare practice in the greater LA market as a Project Architect working with some of our top Healthcare clients. With some guidance from leadership, you’ll support all aspects of the project process from validation/pre-design through construction administration and close-out within Acute and non-Acute Healthcare projects.

For this opportunity, you can be based out of the Los Angeles or Pasadena Office. Stantec embraces a hybrid home/office work environment, with 1-2 days per week in office for all-staff meetings, project-related team work sessions, client meetings, etc. You will also spend time at project locations based on the business needs of the client.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for small to medium healthcare projects of varying complexity/size.

  • Conceptualizes a building design from both a functional and aesthetic perspective in concert with a client’s requirements, budget and program.

  • Develops a design through sketches, physical models, electronic models, diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats to express the design intent and communicate to project team, client, and building user groups.

  • Utilizes BIM technologies in development of three-dimensional models of buildings and their components.

  • Participates in design critiques and constructability reviews.

  • Presents the design with the Project Manager and Project Designer to stakeholders during early project phases. Develops building design in accordance with cost parameters.

  • Develops space planning, block planning, and adjacency diagrams in coordination with building program.

  • Evaluates and selects building systems and materials.

  • Coordinates building systems to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

  • Implements sustainable design principles into the design and environment.

  • Analyzes site incorporating geotechnical, hydrological, environmental, social, economic and contextual conditions.

  • Participates in development of the program and other pre-design efforts.

  • Ensures that design intent is maintained through documentation and construction.

  • Responsible for leading others in project team setting and design critiques and pin-ups.

  • Implement Life Safety strategies for Healthcare and related occupancies.

  • Knowledge of Lean tools and on-site big room experience is a plus.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to lead one or more teams on Healthcare/OSHPD projects through the development of design concept.

  • Apply knowledge and application of accessibility codes, applicable building codes, and life-safety codes to a wide variety of project scopes and complexity.

  • General knowledge of building construction systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Hand sketch and communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively.

  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.

  • General understanding of all phases of architectural document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Proven success participating and collaborating in a project team setting through all phases of architectural document production.

  • Ability to check work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to lead a highly collaborative BIM delivery strategy

  • Ability to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Present abstract ideas to the client and client representatives.

  • Strong presentation and interview skills.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field

  • Licensure required; California licensure preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience with healthcare or institutional clients

  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP a plus

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
