Stantec Belgium, based in La Hulpe, is the Stantec unit that provides consulting services to international institutions, such as the European Commission (EC), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and EU bilateral donors such as DFID. Our services include design, procurement and construction supervision for water and wastewater, energy and climate change projects as well as management support, monitoring and evaluation of large investment programmes. Our main geographical focus lies on Europe, Africa and other developing countries.

Your role

As part of our strategy to increase the delivery of services to the EU with our internal staff, you will be providing technical inputs as short term expert on the on-going technical assistance projects in the field of energy. Our current portfolio includes large technical assistance projects such as the Sustainable Energy for All facility and a number of other projects in the field of renewable energy in Africa. You will also participate to the commercial development of new projects in your respective field of expertise but working as expert on project will remain your priority. You will be required to demonstrate a combination of discipline, flexibility, efficient client relationship and precision in all tasks. The position is based in Belgium with regular missions abroad.

What will you be doing

As you have gained a clear understanding of local development challenges and opportunities as well as providing appropriate solutions in the energy sector in developing countries, you will be delivering technical inputs notably as short term experts on projects and will be supporting the implementation and the growth of the services for our portfolio of energy projects. The type of inputs could cover the technical, policy or economical side of promoting energy access programme and projects in Africa.


Energy consultant



  • University degree with ideally a background in energy

  • At least two years of experience in delivering expertise on renewable energy, energy efficiency or climate change actions in a development country (project field experience in Africa is considered an asset)

  • A previous experience working with an EU Delegation is considered an asset

  • Experience drafting technical reports (deliverables) concisely, of high quality and meeting client/beneficiary needs and deadlines

  • Previous experience in building professional relationships with public institutions/private sector/civil society and maintaining momentum in a development context will be an asset

  • Solid written and spoken English and French are required

  • IT-skills: advanced use of MS Office, Word, Excel

  • Team player, able to work in a multicultural team together with freelance senior/local experts and take responsibility/ownership of the work to be performed

  • Work ethics, dynamism and ability to cope with multiple tasks
