Your Opportunity

The role of a civil engineer is to work on smaller projects and as a team member of larger projects under the close guidance and supervision of a more senior engineer/designer. You will perform a variety of tasks, which may include calculations and field work. A civil engineer will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments, and may assist in the analysis of proposed projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Uses knowledge of the general concepts of relevant civil engineering elements including conveyance system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.

  • Sets up base sheets, performs hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, and creates basic reports and design criteria for projects.

  • Prepares conveyance system drawings and reports for relevant project design elements.

  • Uses relevant software programs such as AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation to assist with preparation of simple exhibits to more complex design drawings.

  • Develops conveyance system plan and profile drawings and details.

  • Performs due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start new projects.

  • Contacts outside agencies to conduct utility investigations, and prepares and updates tracking system to organize and manage the data acquisition.

  • Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design including conveyance engineering, gravity and pressure systems hydraulics, geotechnical, and civil design.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative critical thought.

  • Basic experience relevant design software, which may include AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation, ArcGIS, and knowledge of calculations performed by the software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering & EIT.

Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
