Your Opportunity

Stantec's Program Management group is currently seeking a Practice Lead in our Edmonton or Calgary office who will oversee our Owner's Representative Project Management business in the Alberta region.

Reporting to the Canada Program Management Lead, the Business Center Practice Leader (BCPL) is the “seller/doer” responsible for leading the pursuit and delivery of excellent work to our clients. Accountable for the top line, the BCPL leads the growth of the Business Center’s and Stantec’s market position while providing innovative solutions with exceptional quality and execution that exceed client expectations.

In this role, your primary objective is to expand our Program and Project Management practice across Alberta. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of building and maintaining client relationships with clients across Infrastructure and Buildings to pursue, win, and deliver new project management services and projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

Client Focus:

  • Responsible for exceeding client expectations through strong project and account management across the Business Center (BC) and personally leading accounts for major clients in the BC

  • Work with BC and local leaders to drive the client relationship strategy and drive strong results in the client satisfaction survey within the BC

Business Development and Collaboration:

  • Lead and/or conduct business development efforts, including market research, client relationships, developing leads, and securing contracts

  • Work with Business Center (BC) Leadership to identify BC priorities and strategic opportunities in the geographic market - Actively contribute to win strategies, key pursuits and successful project execution and become involved at a hands-on level on projects should issues impacting client satisfaction or project management best practices escalate

  • Demonstrate a willingness to be named in a senior role on key opportunities (e.g. Project Manager, Program Manager) as appropriate.

  • Actively contribute to the growth of the BC through business development, key pursuit, and sales strategy

  • Responsible for implementing the marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the BC including cross selling

  • Participate in Go/No Go Review process

  • Partner with BC and local leaders to drive collaboration on pursuits across geographies and business lines

  • Utilize, maintain, and monitor the opportunity pipeline to optimize business development plans and employee utilization rates

  • Ensure local marketplace reputation through established relationships and support of leadership

  • Market and community outreach and engagement

  • Accountable to achieve organic growth targets

Project Focus:

  • Lead or be involved in key projects, as required

  • Conduct risk management related to projects and pursuits including review of contracts, fees, and proposals on large pursuits and in coordination with BC leaders and risk management team Practice

  • Inspire, motivate, and hold team members accountable for project delivery and QAQC in the execution of work

  • Collaborate with local area leadership

  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the company

  • Uphold a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, encourages individual integrity, and focuses on the customer and service delivery

People Leadership:

  • Collaborate with Business Center leadership to ensure the proper staffing of all projects including hiring needs

  • Support BC with developing, attracting, engaging, and retaining top talent

  • Foster employee connectedness by interfacing frequently with employees

  • Participate in regular office and BC Wide meetings to communicate the vision, business strategy and progress against applicable action plans

  • Support the overall talent management lifecycle including career development, employee engagement, succession planning, coaching, and mentoring, diversity and inclusion, and leadership development for the BC

Operational Responsibilities:

-Financial reporting for the Program Management business in Alberta

-Manage costs of the Alberta Program Management Team to ensure resources are appropriately sized and deployed


Your Capabilities and Credentials

Fundamentally, we are looking for an exceptional candidate who will attract key clients and has proven experience delivering major capital projects in an Owner’s Representative Project Management role. You will have a proven track record of growing teams and winning new clients.

Strong people skills are essential. Direct reports to this position include Owner's Representative Project Managers.

It is essential you have proven leadership skills with experience in managing team relationships. You will have excellent communications skills and an ability to lead your team through demonstrated commitment and collaboration. You must also have demonstrated experience at the middle to senior level management levels.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of related program management experience including the ability to manage large, complex programs on time and within budget

  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience

  • Post-secondary degree in the areas of Project Management, Architecture, or Engineering

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable
