Stantec's Water sector has an immediate opportunity for an EIT with experience or an interest in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering. As a Civil/Geotechnical EIT you will provide comprehensive geotechnical services to Stantec clients from field explorations to the design and construction management of complex geotechnical structures. You will provide specialized services such as the analysis and design of foundation elements, dam and levee structures, and seismic remediation design.
The role of an entry level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer is to work on smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the close guidance and supervision of a Senior Engineer. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of simple tasks, and meeting attendance and recording. The smaller projects that an entry level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer may be assigned to will have relatively few complex features.
In general, an entry level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer will assist more senior engineers by performing the routine aspects of Civil/Geotechnical Engineering assignments.
Your Key Responsibilities
Use knowledge of general concepts of relevant Civil/Geotechnical Engineering elements including system hydraulics, surveying and topographic mapping, geotechnical considerations, grading, utility investigations and analyses.
Assists team in preparing civil designs, drawings, specifications, presentations and reports.
Conducts basic calculations and performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned and under the supervision of a project engineer.
May perform field work related to pilot and/or construction related activities.
Assists in supporting the civil team in providing support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.
Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Basic understanding of general concepts of relevant areas of Civil/Geotechnical Engineering design including dams, levees, landfills, ground improvements, storm water/drainage, roadways, erosion and sediment control, and grading.
Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
Understanding of Civil/Geotechnical Engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and other similar material.
Basic experience in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs, which may include AutoCAD Civil3D, GeoStudio, gINT, etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering. Masters preferred. Minimum of 0-2 years of experience. Co-op/Internship experience preferred. Passed the FE exam and must have the ability to obtain PE in 3 to 5 years, depending on experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
