Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a Senior Financial Specialist to join Stantec’s external reporting team, which provides services related to external financial reporting and regulatory filings in Canada and the US. The team’s expertise ensures the financial reporting is in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulatory requirements. Located in Edmonton, with a flexible, hybrid work arrangement, this position reports to the Senior Director, External Reporting.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare interim and year-end Financial Statements that comply with IFRS disclosure requirements.

  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory filing documents. This includes preparing and reviewing the Management Discussion and Analysis, coordination of the Annual Report with the Investor Relations team, and working with the Risk Management team to support the information included in the Annual Information Form and Management Information Circular,

  • Assist in the preparation of various information (including memos) for the audit committee.

  • Monitor and manage the team’s compliance with SOX controls and maintain the necessary documentation to support compliance.

  • Complete and provide guidance over complex accounting transactions, such as hedge accounting, derivative financial instruments, contingent liabilities, joint venture accounting, etc.

  • Analyze the impact and implementation of new IFRSs and provide adoption recommendations

  • Prepare or review various financial information for Investor Relations.

  • Participate in special projects related to financial reporting, regulatory filings, that may arise from time to time.

  • Assist in the training and development of CPA students.

  • Provide financial accounting support to other statutory reporting teams.

  • Develop and participate in providing IFRS training to other teams such as financial services, risk management, etc.

  • Participate in monitoring and assessing the regulatory and accounting developments related to Environmental, Social and Governance requirements across the globe.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities & Credentials

  • Intermediate to advance proficiency in Excel.

  • Ability to work either as part of a team or independently with a full range of staff.

  • Ability to work independently to company deadlines and to manage multiple competing priorities.

  • Independently organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables.

  • Highly competent communication skills, including written and oral.

  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a professional accounting designation.

  • Minimum of 5 years post-designation experience with a solid knowledge of IFRS.

  • A working knowledge and experience with a public company and Canadian and US regulatory filings is an asset.
