The role of Intermediate Civil Technician/Technologist is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, MTO's, modeling, drawing production, field work, and coordination with other disciplines. The projects that a civil designer may be assigned to may be broad, varied and diverse in scope.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for projects of varying complexity/size.
Develop site grading and drainage models using Civil3D to assist in the development of 2D plans and profiles, cross-sections, and earthwork volumes.
Prepare preliminary and detail design engineering drawings for site grading, drainage, earthworks, roads, ponds, containment, and excavations.
Perform Cut-Fill earthwork balance for larger sites, pipeline corridors, and longer access roads.
Develop conceptual designs with minimal supervision.
Prepare material volume estimates (MTO's) using Civil3D and manually.
Conduct inter-discipline coordination.
Responsible for model checks and drawing design checks for the work of others as part of Stantec's QA/QC procedure.
Works on multiple projects.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Strong knowledge of civil engineering concepts, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
High level of expertise in AutoCAD Civil3D. Familiarity with InRoads and Pipe Networks is an asset.
Solid understanding of coordinate systems.
Excellent understanding of requirements and application of client CAD standards.
Good knowhow of different civil application vendor products and its application.
Working knowledge of underground water, storm and sanitary sewer system is an asset
Able to manage multiple projects using strong communication, coordination, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision and work under and meet tight deadlines.
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combined with a minimum of 5-6 years related experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
