Your Opportunity

The role of the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer is to work as an overall discipline lead on a large, multi-site oil and gas terminals project. The Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain instrument and control systems or products for the project. An Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which include calculations, and field work. The project that the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will be assigned to, will have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a large project of high complexity.

  • Frequent travel (weekly) to the client's engineering and construction site locations are required.

  • Oversees the evaluation, selection, specifications, and engineering of all instrumentation and control systems or products for a project.

  • Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, CAD and other visual formats.

  • Oversees the preparation and revision of documentation in various project phases including panel layouts, wiring diagrams, installation details, control narratives and shutdown Keys.

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.

  • Develops and manages the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule.

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.

  • Participates in HAZOP/PHA, design and constructability reviews.

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on the project.

  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for the project.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian Electrical Code and applicable industry standards.

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Strong knowledge and experience in liquids storage terminals and custody transfer systems.

  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.

  • Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Exemplary communications skills with proactive work style in a collaborative environment

  • Advanced understanding of engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.

  • Strong presentation and interview skills.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum of 7-8 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
