Your Opportunity

The role of the civil engineer in the Power and Dams team is to primarily work on renewable energy and power-related projects, directing the work of civil designers, junior team members and drafters to effectively execute civil engineering scope. The engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer civil designs for a project. As a civil engineer you will perform a variety of tasks which may include performing engineering designs, developing construction packages, leading projects as a Civil lead and performing inter-discipline coordination. The projects that a civil engineer may be assigned to, may be broad, varied, and diverse in scope, but will be focused on renewable energy generation and other power-related projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for small/large projects of varying complexity and executing/managing multiple projects.

  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all civil designs for a project.

  • Perform engineering designs, calculations, and provide direction to the design team.

  • Perform the role of discipline lead on projects; managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.

  • Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.

  • Leads in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.

  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications, MTOs, DBM, and Scope of Work documents.

  • Participates in constructability review, risk review, value engineering, and lessons learned sessions.

  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.

  • Provide inputs and assists with development of proposals.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Registered with APEGA as a professional engineer

  • Experience in the design of civil infrastructure, such as site planning, roads, drainage, grading and earthworks.

  • Experience designing the grading for solar generation projects (including tracker systems) is an asset.

  • Strong working knowledge of engineering software applications such as Civil3D and other design or modeling tools.

  • Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Experience with hydraulic/hydrology modeling software, such as SWMM, is an asset.

  • Well versed with discipline design standards, specifications, and regulatory codes.

  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.

  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.

  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.

  • Proven decision making and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD.

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer. Minimum of 8 years of experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
