Your Opportunity

Stantec’s has an opportunity for highly qualified Resident Engineer with large earth and rockfill dam construction experience. The dam construction project is for a large rockfill dam and appurtenant structures in Northern Colorado. You will work with a team of Stantec field engineers and geologists and be supported by the Stantec home office staff who designed the project.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the observation, documentation, technical review, evaluation, and engineering decisions for the construction of a large rockfill dam, including appurtenant structures to make sure that the project is constructed according to the plans and specifications.

  • Primary point of contact for Stantec at the site.

  • Responsible for the safety of Stantec’s staff.

  • Coordinate Stantec services with the home office support staff.

  • Supervise and mentor Stantec site staff, developing them professionally, delegating work to them, and reviewing field work products.

  • Represent Stantec at site meetings with the Contractor, Construction Manager (CM), and Owner.

  • Prepare site portion of Stantec’s reporting and progress updates, and make presentations to CM, Owner, and board of consultants.

  • Coordinate with the CM so that there is full coverage of the Contractors’ activities.

  • Work with the CM to see that state engineer rules are met.

  • Review technical portions of Contractor’s and CM project documentation.

  • Work with the CM to resolve non-conformance reports (NCRs).

  • Work with the CM and Stantec site and home office staff and to resolve design-related issues, and claims, should they arise.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Technical expert in dam design and construction.

  • Outstanding record of successful dam design and construction projects.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and to mentor junior staff.

  • Ability to work in typical field office environment, including working at a desk for long periods of time, with exposure to noise, dirt, and dust.

  • Ability to work in typical dam construction field environment, working outside with exposure to the elements for long periods of time, strenuous walking, hiking, and climbing.

  • Ability to be flexible and work as the construction activities require including second shifts and up to 60 hours per week.

  • Must have good driving record and a valid driver’s license.

  • Required software applications include Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project. AutoCAD experience beneficial, but not required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Masters degree preferred.

  • Minimum of twenty (20) years’ experience on civil/geotechnical and dam projects showing increasing responsibility.

  • Minimum of five (5) years in a resident engineer or construction manager role of dam related projects.

  • Registered Professional Engineer in CO or ability to become registered within one year preferred.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $122,300 - $152,800 — Colorado locations only. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
