Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking an Electrical & Instrumentation Designer to join our group in the Dartmouth, NS office.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize electrical engineering principles and techniques to provide instrument, controls and automation engineering and design services for heavy industries and onshore oil & gas projects

  • Define and conduct the design of electrical power & control systems, and instrumentation control systems

  • Prepare grounding plan and detail drawings for the installation of new equipment, Conduit / Cable Tray Routings, Conduit / Cable Schedule, PLC Panel Layout drawings, create PLC I/O Schematic drawings

  • Review and create piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) for oil and gas production and storage facilities

  • Travel to client facilities for the purpose of gathering field information and participating in design review meetings

  • Produce specifications for control valves, pressure/ temperature/ flow/ and level instruments.

  • Produce specifications for lighting, heat tracing, cable tray, cables, motors and motor control, PLCs.

  • Create cause and effect matrices, loop diagrams, block diagrams, control system architecture drawings and network communication drawings

  • Develop data sheets for measurement and control devices, such as control & relief valves, actuators, flow meters, flow and restriction orifices, analyzers, transmitters, and switches.

  • Applies industry codes and standards such as ISA (International Society of Automation), Canadian Electrical Code, and client company standards

  • Provides electrical engineering technical support for inspection of control systems by participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)/commissioning

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Be strong in electrical theory.

  • Have strong aptitudes for troubleshooting.

  • Be comfortable interacting with clients and contractors in a field setting.

  • Demonstrate strong verbal communication skills.

  • Be able to work independently without supervision and in a team setting.

  • Be able to read and create LV Single Line Diagrams, including sizing of electrical equipment, conduit and cable, Motor Control Schematic diagrams

Desired skills:

  • CAD design and drafting for industrial electrical systems including power distribution, standby power, motor controls, Programmable Logic Control (PLC) systems, Instrumentation & Controls, and SCADA communications

  • Computer application programs (SKM and E-Tap) for sizing and analyzing electrical systems.

  • Working knowledge of software programs including AutoCAD (2D/3D), CADWorx, and Adobe Acrobat.

  • Have knowledge of SmartPlant, Plant3D, Solidworks, PDMS

Education and Experience

Diploma of Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.

5-10 years’ experience in job offered.

Eligible to register with TechNova would be beneficial.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.
