Your Opportunity

The role of a Noise and Air Quality Specialist is to work as a team member on small and large projects under the guidance of a Senior Noise and Air Specialist. The Noise and Air Specialist will be responsible for monitoring, modeling, analyzing, and reporting for transportation projects.

A Noise and Air Quality Specialist must be able to utilize the latest approved versions of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (TNM), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment procedure, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Bentley Microstation.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field measurements, modeling, analysis, and reporting on a variety of Air, Noise, and Vibration related transportation projects.

  • Utilize tools including but not limited to Aviation Environmental Design Tool (AEDT), Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) Emissions and Dispersion Modeling System (EDMS), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model TNM2.5, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Bentley Microstation, SoundPLAN, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment procedure, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES2014a), GREET2012, EMFAC2011, EPA Mobile 6.2, Caline3, CAL3QHC, CALPUFF, AERMOD, CO Florida, and EPA Landfill Gas Emissions Model (LandGEM)

  • Provide technical assistance/guidance regarding noise and air regulatory compliance issues.

  • Perform background research and determine noise and air study needs.

  • Coordinate with others to obtain data necessary to complete noise and air analyses.

  • Coordinate field investigations of project areas.

  • Analyze noise mitigations for feasibility.

  • Prepare noise and air technical reports.

  • Participate in quality control reviews to ensure consistency and quality.

  • Address traffic noise complaints raised by members of the public and other parties.

  • Review noise control measures for standard construction specifications.

  • Identify, develop, and implement regulatory compliance initiatives.

  • Participate in public outreach activities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.

  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.

  • Working knowledge of the NEPA process, specifically in the areas of Noise, Air and Vibration analysis.

  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.

  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.

  • Proficient in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Traffic Noise Model (TNM), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Transit Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment procedure, ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Bentley Microstation.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Engineering or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience.

Position will primarily work in a home office setting; may require some field work.
