Your Opportunity

The role of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project. Reporting to the Manager, Geotechnical Engineering, the Senior Geotechnical Engineer will supervise a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians and manage projects primarily on mining projects from exploration and site investigation, to conceptual design through to construction.

Candidates must be prepared to travel and be in the field for assignment intervals of 2 to 3 weeks.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for large projects of high complexity.

  • Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all civil engineered systems or products for a project.

  • Prepares proposals, cost estimates and timelines for projects

  • Leads the planning, field support and completion of geotechnical site investigations

  • Reviews and interprets monitoring information from geotechnical instrumentation programs

  • Manages the analysis and design of earthworks structures primarily mine pit slopes, waste disposal areas, and tailings dams

  • Tracks costs and hours for projects

  • Reviews and writes technical design reports

  • Supports mine and tailings planning groups in the development and design of large mining projects as required

  • Supervises a team of engineering professionals

  • Oversees and manages multiple projects

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in some or all of the following areas including; mining and/or heavy civil construction, tailings structure/containment design, highwall/overburden/rock slope design, geotechnical investigations, field monitoring, soil mechanics, foundation design and slope stability evaluations.

  • Knowledge of surface mine engineering.

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Strong knowledge of civil systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.

  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.

  • Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Advanced understanding of civil engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.

  • Effective communicator and able to work on and lead teams.

  • Efficient project management of multiple concurrent projects.

  • Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, and AutoCAD.

  • Valid drivers license required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in geotechnical, geological, civil or mining engineering.

Licensed Professional Engineer.

Minimum of 8 years of industry or consulting experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
