Your Opportunity

Our Calgary design studio has an opportunity for a highly motivated Summer/Co-op Student to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team within the Community Development business line Our team is looking for an individual who applies creative thinking while working through the design process and is detailed oriented. You will create design documents and develop technical skills while working with our team. Project experience may include conceptual and final landscape designs, renderings, cost estimates, scope of work definition, specifications, and other construction documents.

This position is perfect for someone early in their Landscape Architecture career with a thirst for exploring design ideas collaboratively with a professional team. This position also offers mentorship under award winning Landscape Architects, Planners, and Architects through all phases of a project lifecycle.

You will have the opportunity to plan and design public and private projects across a range of scales with a variety of developer, municipal, and federal clients. You will build new relationships with our 250 landscape architectural staff throughout the organization. As part of Stantec’s flexible workplace, this position provides the opportunity for splitting between working at home and from our open concept studio environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting design teams with site analysis, concept design, production of construction documents, project presentation graphics, and construction administration efforts.

  • Visiting construction sites to observe and approve construction conformance to the design intent.

  • Developing knowledge in Landscape Architecture and design.

  • Producing designs and preparing project graphics using hand and computer rendering techniques.

  • Developing technical designs and drawings across a range of project scales from less than one acre to hundreds of acres in size. Skills required include technical design layout, grading, planting, and developing details for real projects.

  • Maintaining a sense of excitement and a positive attitude around your involvement in projects such as, but not limited to, urban design, education, healthcare, master planned communities, recreation and sport facilities, resorts and tourism, restoration, town center/commercial development, etc.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Solid graphic and digital design and documentation skills.

  • An eagerness to continually learn and develop one’s professional skills.

  • Willingness to work in a virtual environment to support projects across North America, as well as international project opportunities.

Technical skills required:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.

  • A high degree of skills in the Adobe suite of graphic software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc)

  • Ability to utilize rendering and modeling software such as Sketchup, Rhino, Lumion, etc.

  • Working knowledge of Land F/X and Revit software packages are not required but considered an asset.

Education and Experience

Working through a program in Landscape Architecture from an accredited university.

A portfolio of project work will need to be provided for review. This can either be in pdf format or links to an online portfolio site.
