Your Opportunity

We are looking for a civil engineering student to complete a 16-month internship term with our Community Development team, beginning May 2022.

In the role of a civil engineering intern, this individual will contribute to a multi-disciplinary team on the design and delivery of land development projects for our clients located in the Greater Calgary Region. These rewarding projects will provide the individual an opportunity to learn and expand their engineering skillset, obtain valuable hands-on work experience, and gain exposure to co-workers and leadership who are committed to the individual’s career and professional development. This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

Land development is a complex endeavor that requires understanding of multiple engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture, and construction disciplines. It involves bringing the best ideas from each discipline and weaving them together to create great communities for our clients and for future residents.

We are seeking team members who are motivated to learn how to best maneuver in this exciting environment. The responsibilities listed below are an excellent opportunity to increase both your technical understanding and professional skillset through a broad range of exposure throughout your internship.

As a civil engineering intern, your responsibilities may include:

  • Acting as an on-site observer for active construction projects. Duties include:

    • Interacting with contractors, surveyors, and City of Calgary inspectors
    • Cross-referencing engineering drawings to surveyor gradesheets and contractor product
    • Communicating on-site issues to the office and assist with problem solving
    • Representing both Stantec and our clients in a professional matter
  • Assisting designers throughout various stages of drawing production. Duties include:

    • Sound attenuation analysis studies
    • Earthworks cut/fill analysis using AutoCAD Civil 3D
    • Erosion & Sediment Control Reports
    • Design and review sanitary, storm and water networks in support of the designer
    • Reviewing Shallow Utility Plans
  • Drafting emails, letters, memos, and technical reports

  • Understanding and implementing Stantec’s policies, framework, and safety culture

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Require valid Class 5 drivers permit.

Education and Experience

Our team is seeking an individual who is actively progressing towards a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with at least three years of education complete by May 1, 2022.

Previous work experience is not required; however, taking initiative to solve problems and the willingness to strengthen your professional skillset is a must.
