Stantec seeks a mid-level wetland scientist to join our Environmental Services team. Stantec’s Environmental Services team in Massachusetts provides a small company feel that offers local services while also supporting national projects. Your core group of co-workers consists of a diverse team of environmental and regulatory specialists in Massachusetts and throughout New England.
Your primary responsibilities will involve conducting and/or leading small- and large-scale wetland delineations and preparing environmental permit applications for our public and private sector clients and the internal Stantec team. You will be supported by a core group of MA permitting experts and will support a diverse array of project types with a strong emphasis on renewable energy, community development, institutions, and natural resource resiliency and restoration.
The selected candidate will work efficiently and safely alone or with field teams and participate in other tasks, such as workflow planning, data collection and dissemination, reporting, permitting support, and communication with project management, clients, and regulators.
The selected candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of field experience delineating wetlands according to the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Regional Supplement to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Northcentral and Northeast Region (Version 2.0). A very strong candidate would have experience delineating wetlands and an understanding of the applicable wetland related regulations and delineation protocols in other New England states. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental discipline is required.
In addition to wetland delineation skills, selected candidates should have strong oral and written communication s skills, excellent ethics, attitude, and morale. Candidates must have writing, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills. Field support skills, experience driving/navigating in remote locations, and previous experience with GPS or iPAD data collection technologies are required. Successful wetland field scientists at Stantec have opportunities for professional development, are often tasked with learning new skills (i.e. wildlife and fisheries), and work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

Our Environmental Services group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively, providing design and permitting solutions for a broad suite of clients, including public, private, and non-governmental entities.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in:
Your Key Responsibilities
Conducting inland resource delineations in Massachusetts (coastal delineations experience is a plus)
GPS data collection
Managing information development
Preparing technical reports detailing wetland delineations;
Client and regulatory consultations
Report and permit application preparation for the US Army Corps of Engineers, and MassDEP Division of Wetlands and Waterways
Interacting and communicating effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, regulators, and clients
Travel within New England may be required
Knowledge of computer applications and functions, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Minimum 5 years’ work experience; or an equivalent combination of education (e.g. advanced degree) and experience.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
