Your Opportunity

Stantec’s global Carbon Impact Team is a collaborative group of multi-disciplinary professionals that provide consulting services supporting innovative, high-performance projects in the built environment. Our service areas include sustainable design and resilient design strategies, building performance analysis, carbon accounting, commissioning, and energy management. We work with private and public sector clients, covering varied project types and locations in the United States and globally.

Boston Office

Our projects are situated in the Boston metropolitan area and nationwide, and we are seeking an individual to join our sustainability team -- with the skills and experience to serve as a sustainability analyst and project coordinator. This Sustainability Consultant position will have a key focus on integrating carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, and energy modeling within our architecture and interior design practice. This is an intermediate level position, with an available hybrid work arrangement, for an independently driven and motivated professional with specialized interest and knowledge in integrative sustainable design, carbon accounting, energy modeling, and high-performance and wellness strategies for diverse projects.

The successful candidate has a minimum of 3 years of building design-related experience, is a sustainability professional who will contribute technically to our team’s portfolio of high performing LEED, Passive House, and Net Zero projects; who enjoys and can perform related analysis and research; and who will provide mentorship and training opportunities to our design staff.

The candidate should have a background in building design and construction; a passionate interest and deep knowledge of sustainability issues; an understanding of best practices, methodologies, and certification systems; and experience in energy-simulation modeling, carbon accounting, and life-cycle analysis of materials.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Key focus on integrating carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, and energy modeling

  • Work with clients and teams to develop strategies for appropriate sustainability and wellness solutions

  • Identify and communicate sustainability requirements and project obligations

  • Conduct research, early energy modeling, and material life cycle analysis on building projects

  • Prepare quality presentations and deliverables, and execute projects in a timely manner

  • Administer certification rating systems, such as LEED and Fitwel, that are implemented on projects

  • Review project design drawings and specifications for compliance with certification requirements

  • Provide mentorship, training and educational opportunities to staff


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and within a team

  • Excellent organization skills, along with clear verbal communication and strong writing abilities

  • Analytical thinking to draw sensible conclusions from one’s own work

  • Ability to make articulate and persuasive graphic and verbal presentations

  • Working knowledge of:

  • life-cycle analysis software such as OneClick LCA, EC3, and Tally

  • energy modeling software such as Revit Insight, Sefaira, and Cove Tool

  • design software such as PowerPoint, Revit, and Sketchup

  • alternative energy, sustainable design and wellness strategies for buildings

  • sustainable design and wellness systems such as LEED, Passive House, and Fitwel

  • building and energy codes, and their applicable standards and protocols

Education and Experience

  • LEED Green Associate or Accredited Professional credential, or intent to earn within first six months

  • Passive House (PHI or PHIUS) credential, or intent to earn within first six months

  • Academic degree in Architecture, Building Science, Engineering, or Sustainability

  • Minimum 3 years of sustainable design and rating system experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
