Stantec Principal Hydrogeologist in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Stantec is seeking a Principal Hydrogeologist to join our team. There will be the flexibility to work remotely throughout the country in response to opportunities. You will play a central role in expanding our existing workload and reputation in delivering water resources related planning, environmental and regulatory services for a range of public and private sector projects. Our current workload includes the production of water resources and hydrology reports and ongoing water resources and related hydrological advice for a variety of clients and infrastructure projects in the water, energy and community development sectors.

As a member of our Hydrological Sciences team, your role will involve providing technical advice and input into hydrological and water resources investigations including undertaking, producing reports and related deliverables. You will work effectively with water companies, regulators, design engineers, contractors, planners and other stakeholders to help achieve positive outcomes for projects. You will understand hydrological science and water resources planning processes. Experienced in complex hydrological and/or water resources assessments you will have delivered abstraction impact assessments supporting water resources management and drought planning, wider catchment management, climate change impact assessments and Water Framework Directive assessments.

About You

You will have a degree in a relevant subject, and preferably hold a postgraduate degree in hydrogeology and/or water resources management, with or working towards chartership with a relevant institution such as CIWEM, and the Geological Society of London.

Proven experience working across multidisciplinary teams and will be expected to provide high quality work within agreed timescales, budget and quality frameworks ensuring technical and quality aspects are well managed, to deliver innovative solutions whilst ensuring client satisfaction. You will support engagement with clients as well as building and maintaining effective relationships within and outside the company. Client facing experience as well as commercial awareness and understanding will be an advantage with a broad understanding of the water environment and will be able to support the wider water resources team when required, adding to our flexibility, and maintaining consistent utilisation.

You will also have the following: -

  • Experience and desire to lead and develop people, and teams, and deliver projects to budget and time.

  • Technical understanding of hydrology (in particular surface water, groundwater and their interactions, water quality)

  • Experience in leading and supporting the delivery of bids and proposals

  • Understanding of water engineering and how it relates to the natural environment including impact assessment

  • Understanding of the planning regime, policy and constraints with regard to WRMP

  • We are keen to expand our international work, and international experience in water resource hydrogeology is an advantage
