Your Opportunity
Stantec’s Texas Landscape Architecture team is seeking a senior landscape architect to lead our Austin studio. In collaboration with our LA leadership team, the successful candidate will lead our Austin studio in a design and technical capacity as well as in the day-to-day management of projects from the proposal stage, into design, and through the construction administration phase.
The Studio Leader is a seller-doer role involving identifying, developing, pursuing and winning opportunities with new and existing clients to grow our landscape architecture business, as well as leadership in the execution and delivery of projects from proposal stage through design and construction. The successful candidate will be someone with strong leadership and communication skills, market knowledge, successful history of project delivery, client relations, and business acumen.
This position supports our growth strategy in the region and will leverage your industry knowledge, technical expertise, and client relationships to assist in setting the strategic direction of our landscape architecture practice in Texas and regionally.
Your Key Responsibilities
Lead business development efforts, including market research, developing and maintaining client relationships, developing leads, and securing contracts
Work with LA Leadership to identify priorities and strategic opportunities in the geographic market
Actively contribute to win strategies, key pursuits and successful project execution
In collaboration with LA leadership team, lead day to day operations of our Austin, Texas studio
Manage diverse projects in the public and private sectors, including parks and recreation facilities; bicycle, pedestrian, and multiuse trails; sports and athletic facilities; healthcare, corporate, and educational campuses; as well as master planned communities including mixed-use and transit-oriented developments
Lead teams in conceptual design, design development and preparation of contract documents, presentation packages, and specifications
Manage quality on projects through our Quality Assurance process
Exhibit design and thought leadership pertaining to public realm and infrastructure in urban environments
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to staff and promote inter-office collaboration
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Licensure as a Landscape Architect in Texas
Demonstrated responsibility, maturity and commitment to a team driven environment are key capabilities, including an ability to communicate effectively, lead teams, develop strong internal relationships, and foster a culture of collaboration
Desire and the ability to contribute on multiple levels within the design process are critical
Demonstrated effectiveness in building and maintaining client relationships; Proven ability to translate those relationships into winning new work opportunities
Excellent creative and critical thinking skills
Ability to integrate sustainability in all aspects of planning and design
Well- versed in local, regional and national trends in planning, landscape architecture and urban design
Ability to successfully scope and deliver multi-disciplinary projects
Excellent verbal and graphic communication skills
Strong understanding of graphic applications (either hand or digital) including Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office; A working knowledge of Lumion and/or LandF/X, is a plus
High-level understanding and working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up, or similar platforms at a supervisory level of effectiveness
Possesses excellent time management skills and has a thorough understanding of task assignment and schedule, budgeting, and efficient use of time and resources
Thorough understanding of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and how they apply to design projects
Education and Experience
Candidate’s work experience should demonstrate appropriate level of responsibility, work group leadership skills, understanding of the long-term view in building client relationships, superior customer service and communication skills both written and graphic
Undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited Landscape Architecture program
15 years of experience
You will work in an office setting. Local and state-wide travel will be required for attending client or public meetings, scoping new assignments, and participating in internal meetings with staff in Community Development and across all business lines.
