Stantec Data Engineer in Product Development (ENG) in Arnhem, Delft, Oosterhout, Netherlands
At Stantec in The Netherlands, we work at the intersection of data engineering and environmental management. Our mission is to radically improve the affordability and speed of subsurface hazard assessments so that everyone enjoys better protection, compliance and efficiencies when preparing and delivering underground infrastructure projects.
In pursuit of this mission, we have successfully launched various data-driven products over the past years. Our range of data-driven products and their enabling software allow our clients to instantly identify the location and impact of potential subsurface hazard such as soil contamination, groundwater, unexploded ordnances and tree roots.
In this role, as a Data Engineer you’ll focus on designing, developing and maintaining stable and scalable data services. You’ll work directly with and shape our current and future business-critical processes that transform raw (spatial) data into the right information and the app/API technologies that distribute the information to our clients and users. In addition, you’ll actively contribute to decision-making and implementation of initiatives aimed at optimizing our architecture, development practices and tech stack. Think of engaging in further experimentation and adoption of containerization technologies, CI/CD pipelines and transitioning our data services to the MS Azure cloud platform.
The team you’ll be joining combines expertise in (geo-)data engineering, software development and environmental management. We focus solely on developing and delivering long-term solutions that solve problems for an entire industry or market. At the moment, we are primarily engaged in the further development of our successful suite of data-driven subsurface hazard assessment solutions as we see still see significant potential for further growth and meaningful advancements in our product offering. In the coming years, we expect to expand our scope with new data-driven products aimed at providing lasting solutions for challenges in the field of spatial planning and the energy transition.
Our way of working is Agile. That is not an end in itself, but we see it as an excellent means to remind us to keep thinking from a customer perspective, to set clear goals and to give the development team the freedom to decide how our goals can best be achieved.
What are your main responsibilities?
Design, develop and maintain data services for processing large volumes of (spatial) data.
Improve, scale up and further automate existing ETL processes.
Set up and optimize ETL processes within our MS Azure cloud platform.
Document ETL processes and data models.
Perform quality checks by means of pair programming / code reviews.
Contribute to the development of the field within Stantec, e.g. by conducting in-house training and providing guidance to your colleagues on the team
