Stantec has an immediate need for a mid-level architectural historian in its Sacramento office. This position will primarily consist of research and report preparation, and may also include field work, eligibility determination, architectural descriptions, site record preparation, consultation documentation, and some business development.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Conduct background research and repare historic resource reports;
Prepare written architectural descriptions and eligibility determinations;
Perform history/architecture fieldwork tasks including survey, photographing resources, and taking extensive notes; and
Preparation of site records.
Interacting with clients and assisting with business development
Your Capabilities and Credentials
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
An advanced degree (M.A., M.S. or Ph.D) in public history, architectural history, historic preservation, or related field that meets the Secretary of Interior Standards for Architectural History and History as a Professional Qualified Person (PQS).
3 to 5 years’ experience as an architectural historian/built environment specialist working in the cultural resources management industry.
Strong familiarity with NHPA, CEQA and municipal charters and general plans as they pertain to architectural history.
supervisory experience mentoring and developing junior architectural historian skillsets is a plus.
Familiarity with ArcGIS and related GIS platforms.
Archival research experience, especially state and federal archives, and photo archives.
Experience with hydroelectric relicensing and license compliance, utilities sector (electrical transmission and power infrastructure), transportation and military projects.
Experience developing scope and cost estimates for small-to-medium sized projects.
Strong written and oral communications skills and the ability to maintain positive client relationships.
A desire and experience working as a collaborative and productive team member.
