Our Tempe, AZ Mining group has an immediate need for a Senior Geomechanical Engineer to anchor our office and work with our various clients. As our Geomechanical Engineer you will execute geomechanics & rock engineering activities within budget and schedule, while maintaining technical integrity. Reporting to the Director, Global Mining you will also:
Provide oversight of geotechnical programs, plan, manage and execute underground and open pit mechanics studies
Preparation of technical proposals for clients
Conduct geotechnical & numerical modelling analysis; slope behaviour and rock stress fields around underground openings
Review third party technical documents and recommendations
Design and oversight of rock reinforcement engineering, predictive slope modelling in large open pits, failure analysis of both engineered mine designs and rock reinforcement products, design of remediation for slope instabilities & design/installation of slope monitoring equipment
Manage and provide Geomechanical oversight into rock mechanics, open pit and underground mine design, numerical modelling, geology, geostatistics, rock slope engineering, hydrology, and soil characterization
Manage and review the execution of job related duties such as; slope stability analysis & remediation, predictive modelling of open pit slope & underground mine opening behaviour, rock reinforcement design, buttress and slope corrections for open pits, stability analysis for tailings dams and heap leach piles
Provide recommendations for various hydrology and dewatering programs
Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its Clients
Ensure all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering discipline and eight (8) years engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability; OR
Master’s Degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related engineering or geosciences discipline and five (5) years’ experience in hard rock mining relating to underground rock mechanics and rock slope stability
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere including involvement in technical business development
Knowledge of the principles and practises of mining, mining engineering, geotechnical applications in hard rock underground mine environments
Ability to undertake rock slope stability analysis and design for open pit mines.
Ability to undertake geotechnical design for various types of underground mining including long hole stoping, overhand and underhand cut and fill, sublevel caving, block caving, room and pillar and others.
Skill in researching, analysing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and actions
Advanced knowledge of various geomechanical software packages such as Flac 3D and the Rocscience suite of software.
Ability & willingness to travel domestically & internationally, occasionally for extended periods of time.
